Now in our 13th Season
Festival Ballet Albuquerque premiered in May, 2010, with a Gala Choreographer’s Showcase featuring nationally known choreographers Mel Tomlinson, Robbie Mackey, and Matthew Diamond, as well as New Mexico choreographers Patricia Dickinson, Judy Czelusniak, Dara Beckley, Krista King Doherty, “Shuga” Shane Montoya, Julie Cobble and Trey Pickett. Over the years, FBA has commissioned additional works by Jock Soto (former New York City Ballet icon), Vladimir Conde Reche, Alex Ossadnik, Beth Griffin, Dominic Guerra, Natalee Bartlett, and many others.
The first presentation of Dickinson Wells’ Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment premiered in December 2011. Patricia’s regional adaptation of the holiday classic was performed with a live symphony music under the direction of Guillermo Figueroa. FBA’s Nutcracker has grown into a beloved annual family tradition for New Mexicans ever since.
FBA’s first thirteen years of operation have been fast-paced and groundbreaking with performances including collaborations with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (The Firebird, 2010), New Mexico Philharmonic (Peter and the Wolf, (2011-2019), and the Figueroa Project (The Soldier’s Tale, The Firebird, Creation of the World, George Balanchine’s Serenade, and the filmed version of The Soldier’s Tale with the Santa Fe Symphony). Additionally, she gained permission from the Balanchine Trust to perform Valse Fantasie under the direction of NYCB star Zippora Karz. Patricia has also choreographed The Merry Widow for Opera Southwest.
Other productions seen by FBA patrons include Dracula, a Love Story, Billy the Kid and Other Tales, Coppelia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and most recently four collaborations of Sacred Journeys with Robert Mirabal, two-time Grammy award winning Taos Pueblo musician and storyteller.
